Earlier on Monday, the head of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, confirmed the outbreak of the Marburg virus in the northwest of the country. It was also confirmed that there is one case of infection. "We have closed the borders in the Kagera region, where the case of infection was registered," the president stated. "There is an action plan, implemented by the government in collaboration with the World Health Organization and other partners." The Marburg virus is similar to the Ebola virus and also causes hemorrhagic fever, bleeding, and organ damage. Transmission of the virus occurs through contact with infected bodily fluids. Symptoms include fever, muscle pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, and bleeding. "We call on everyone to follow the prescribed safety and hygiene measures, and also to ensure that all those whose contacts are suspected of being infected seek medical help immediately," highlighted the president of Tanzania.
